LimitSwitches

The MicroMill and the ShopBot need to have LimitSwitches.

These are physical switches that will tell the computer that the machine has reached the end of its travel.

The switch should be placed in a way that sends the limit signal before damage is done to the motor or axis mechanism.

The switch should be neatly, securely and properly attached to the machine.

An external Emergency stop switch should be placed in several places around each machine for quick access to stopping the travel of the machine.

The limit switch should be wired to the emergency stop receptors in the control software.

The limit switch could also be used as a home switch by having the machine go all the way to the home position after or in preparation of the cut.

Alternatively, home switches could be placed in a way that has the machine go to the middle of the travel of the axis.

This could be a project for a student in the Building and Repairing Computers class as part of the Input Output device project.
